Don't Eat Processed

Are you eating the very SAD Standard American Diet? Today the typical diet consumed by most Americans is pretty unhealthy. In fact, the rest of the world has a nickname for it — the SAD diet. That’s the Standard American Diet. It’s one of the most dangerous lifestyle choices a person can make.

Red Meat and Dairy

First of all, it’s chock full of red meat and dairy. Both contribute to clogging your arteries and causing hypertension. This isn’t quite as bad if the red meat is grass fed. Unfortunately, many of the cows ingested in North America are treated with growth hormones and other chemicals that can leech into the meat and cause major problems in our bodies. The meat is contaminated by chemicals given to the cows to keep them growing at an accelerated rate, and to keep them free from diseases that could spread among the other cattle.

Processed Foods

Another big problem with the Standard American Diet is processed foods. They’re readily available in North America, and many are considered staple foods for the daily diet. These foods lack fiber and have a tendency to be excessively high in saturated fats and sugars. The high fructose corn syrup makes it awfully hard to lose weight. And let’s not forget the often dangerous salt content. High fructose corn syrup is something that should be avoided at all costs. It sticks in the body and makes it nearly impossible to lose weight. Not only that, but it is basically pure sugar and it packs on the pounds like nothing else.

What To Do About Your SAD

If you insist on sticking with your Standard American Diet, there are a few things you can do. Eat fruits and vegetables at every meal. Don’t skip something green or another color of the natural food rainbow. If you need to have your meat, make sure it’s lean, and try to find grass fed beef to consume. Instead of eating white flour breads, look for whole flour alternatives. Whole-wheat has far more fiber and is much more nourishing for your body.

Consume foods that are high in fiber. Not only will they help you feel full and digest things better allowing your body to eliminate toxins, but they will also help you lose weight. Without fiber in your diet, you become fatter much faster. That can become a very difficult trend to escape.

As a rule, avoid the Standard American Diet whenever possible. But if you can’t, make sure to implement changes that make it work for you. You’ll be glad you did, if not now, then in the future when you’re not suffering from the issues that others who have lived off the standard American diet are dealing with.
