Here we are in the new year! Still celebrating the holidays that started with Thanksgiving?
Or maybe even Halloween?
Have you been guilty of overindulging? Worried that you’ll have to starve yourself, or spend hours at the gym or on the treadmill to get back on track? Start with these steps…
Say No To Guilt
First of all, don’t feel guilty. That will just make it more likely that you start binge eating. It’s a new year, time to move forward. And time to start, or return to, making healthy decisions.
Drink Water
Second, drink lots of water. Not drinking enough water can cause dehydration and impaired digestion. The focus during the holidays is food and alcohol, but if you’ve been overeating, eating the wrong things, etc., focus on rehydrating — with water.
Take A Walk
Third, take a walk. High carbohydrate holiday meals, desserts and snacks send your blood sugar up. And then what? You don’t feel like doing anything except sitting on the couch. Well while you’re sitting or snoozing, your body is storing those fats and carbs you just ate. You can reduce the amount of fat your body stores by taking a 15 minute walk after eating.
Turn It Around
Fourth, turn it around at your very next meal. See? You don’t have to starve yourself. Just fill your plate at the next meal with 1/2 vegetables and 1/2 lean protein this time. Don’t worry, you’ll live without the carbs.
Upset Stomach?
And what if you’ve gone so far overboard that your stomach is upset?
Try some plain unsweetened yogurt with berries and a little raw honey. The probiotics will help your indigestion.
Another home remedy is warm apple cider vinegar. Mix a tablespoon in a cup of warm water and add a tablespoon of honey.
And yet another…try a handful of caraway seeds. They’re loaded with vitamins and minerals that inhibit the bacteria responsible for gas, bloating and indigestion.
